We're pleased to announce that Hackney Council has just signed up to be a corporate member of the London Cycling Campaign. This will enable it to benefit from various benefits including a 10% discount for all its employees on membership of the LCC, as well as advice on being a cycle-friendly employer.

London Cyclist training article thumbnailTim Evans of STA Bikes writes about contemporary cycle training in the October/November issue of London Cyclist magazine. Read it in PDF format (785KB). The article also features our treasurer Brenda being trained and saying she learnt a lot - and this from someone who's been cycling in London for 15 years.

> You can get trained by contacting Cycle Training UK or the Hackney-based London School of Cycling.

3rd August 2005
Minutes of our July meeting now online.

5th July 2005
Minutes of our June meeting now online.

22nd June 2005
Parking  Our next monthly meeting, on Wednesday 6th July, will feature a special workshop on Hackney's new parking policy, which sounds promising not only because it contains policies on how vehicle parking affects cycling (eg minimising 'dooring' and improving junction safety), but also because it includes cycle parking within its remit. Symon Sterne, parking and enforcement plan manager, will be our guest, together with councillors who have responsibility for and an interest in the issue.  See our meetings page for where and when.

Health  We have submitted our response (322KB in PDF format) to the City and Hackney Primary Care Trust's health improvement draft programme. Local GP and former Hackney Cyclists co-ordinator Douglas Carnall was the major contributor to this response.

30th May 2005
May meeting minutes now available.

1st April 2005
STA Bikes ran four very successful 'Bikes in the Parks' training sessions for children and adults over the Easter holidays. Full story. More are planned over the summer.

28th March 2005
Our twice-monthly self-help maintenance workshop is going strong. See diary for confirmed dates.

14th March 2005
Our seminar on cycle-friendly housing on 2nd March was a useful meeting of minds with plenty of pointers to good practice and encouraging news on future developments, from Ealing to the Elephant. You can now listen to audio recordings of the speakers and discussion.

13th March 2005
A new season of sessions has been announced by Pedal Power, the cycling club for people with learning disabilities. Venues are the Lee Valley Cycle Circuit and Victoria Park. See diary.

11th March 2005
Just in time for the Easter school holidays, STA Bikes is organising four days of 'Bikes in the Park', offering free lessons in cycling and cycle maintenance for adults and children. More details.

25th January 2005
Hackney Council just been consulting on crime and disorder. We were disappointed to see that the latest audit fails to include the serious effects of criminal, hazardous and anti-social behaviour of
road users.  We are once again requesting that road user crime be taken seriously as a matter of community safety. Read our response in PDF format.
