Sarah Parry Jones of Sustrans attended our May 2002 meeting to invite feedback from LCC members on the proposed new alignment of National Cycle Network route 1 via Mabley Green.

The map above shows the Sustrans NCN1 route as built on the east side of Hackney Marsh. The route from Homerton Road to Victoria Park is proposed along the River Lee Navigation and Hertford Union canal towpaths but has not yet been upgraded.

Sustrans Director, John Grimshaw, is keen to develop an additional, more direct, alignment from Hackney Marshes to Victoria Park via Mabley Green that would reduce the severance effects of the A12 and the railway. It would also be of more use for commuters and Safe Routes to Schools in the Homerton area.

Any suggested routes or comments from Hackney cyclists and interested parties will be gratefully received and given serious consideration by Sustrans. On Thursday 16 May 2002, several Hackney cyclists helped Sarah to scout the area to identify possible routes.
