Local Cyclists' Manifesto
|
In December 1995, local cyclists, supported by the two Hackney MPs, presented Hackney Council with their 'Local Cyclists' Manifesto'. The manifesto contains three key aims and ten detailed proposals for action to increase cycling in the borough, to improve safety and convenience for cyclists, and to improve the environment in local streets.
There has been significant progress towards the aims of the manifesto, particularly in the proposals to return high streets in Shoreditch and Stoke Newington to two-way use. Although the manifesto launch with its mass ride to the Town Hall is now a fading memory, the primary aims of the manifesto still guide the partnership between local cyclists and the local authority. Recently we decided to ask members for suggestions for updates to the manifesto. Please let us know if any revisions occur to you, either by coming to a meeting or by emailing Douglas Carnall. |
