Deadline for comments: 18th April 2006
Hackney LCC will be
broadly welcoming this scheme, as we do with all 20mph zone proposals,
which successfully reduce motor vehicle speeds and therefore collision
risk for everyone. Items we may comment on include:
- Assisting northbound cycle traffic turning right from Boleyn Road into Wordsworth Road/Barrett's Grove.
- Potentially
problematic speed cushion layouts which can result in motor vehicles
taking the middle of the carriageway rather than remaining in their
lane.
- Ensuring that the one-way westbound spur of Boleyn Road leading into Kingsland High Street is readied for contraflow cycling.
- Stating once again
our opposition to the Gillett Street / Bradbury Street one-way system,
which places a greater importance on motor vehicle loading, waiting and
parking than on permeability for cycle traffic.
We will be discussing this scheme at our next meeting on 5th April 2006. To contribute to Hackney LCC's response, please
come to the meeting or else email your comments to Oliver. Feel free to
send your own comments to Hassan Hassan directly. It is useful for
officers to receive supportive comments which they can balance against
criticisms from the minority which opposes lower motor vehicle speeds.
