Road Danger Watch event at Old Street roundabout
Our neighbours in Islington Cyclists Action Group are organising a 'road danger watch' event at the Old Street / City Road junction. Currently a notoriously unpleasant roundabout surrounding Old Street tube station, this junction is just over the border in Islington, but is of special interest to Hackney Cyclists because it is integral to the Shoreditch traffic system. (Traffic lights were installed on the roundabout in 2002 as part of the Shoreditch gyratory reforms.) The purpose of ICAG's road danger watch events is to observe road user interactions, with the intention of identifying hazardous behaviour and engineering features. These observations will be used to inform campaigns for improved enforcement, engineering and education.
>> 5.30pm-7pm -- please contact Stephen Taylor on 07977 235735 if you would like to take part.

>> Noon to 5pm, London Fields, E8

also Sunday 7th
Tour of Britain opening stage + BikeJam
This Sunday's not short of quality cycling events, because there's also the small matter of the Tour of Britain starting in London. The main event is ten laps of an 8.5km circuit based on the Victoria Embankment. Start and finish are at the Westminster end, but at the other end of the circuit Tower Hill will be a good place both to watch the action and enjoy 'BikeJam', a cycling festival being organised there by stage sponsor Transport for London. Maybe someone will lead a sprint down from the London Fields picnic to see the racing, which starts at 1:30pm?
