July 2004Saturday 3rdDunwich Dynamo 2004 (first full moon)The date of the Dunwich Dynamo is determined by astronomical means, customarily falling on the Saturday closest to the full moon after the summer solstice. This makes 2004 a special year as there are two full moons in July. The sage of Amhurst Road determined that the main event should fall on the second one (see Saturday 31st July, below). [Douglas Carnall has written up his experiences of the event on the first full moon.. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to buy original posters, magazines, signed photographs and rare cycling toys from the sport's glory years. There will also be vintage road bikes to see and the latest in carbon fibre technology. Live TV coverage of each day's stage will be shown. Hülya Türkmen, an employee of the Learning Trust in Hackney, was recently involved in a tragic collision with a heavy goods vehicle on her way between under-fives projects, which resulted in an injury to her right leg requiring amputation above the knee. Her dedication to her role and the children of Hackney remains, and she is ever keen to visit the children whom she works with. Of course her road to recovery will be a long one, and will require support. Her friends and colleagues have therefore organised a concert to celebrate her bravery, and raise funds for specialist equipment for her. Lineup: Bush Taxi
