The London Cycling Campaign in Hackney requests the pleasure of your company at its eighth annual Burns Night supper and dance. Burns Night is always lot of fun -- a great opportunity for LCC members, supporters and other friends to meet each other, have a good time and let off a bit of steam in the dark days of winter. It's also the year's main fundraiser for Hackney LCC, with all profits going to our campaign fund, helping us to do a bigger and better job of promoting cycling in Hackney. So do come along (and book early as this is always a popular event).

Doors open at 7pm, with drinks available at the bar. At 7.30pm sharp, dinner -- the traditional fare of haggis, neeps, tatties and whisky -- is served (this year at adult-sized chairs and tables rather than the until-now customary infant-sized versions!). Vegetarians and vegans are welcomed and well catered for. Recitations and party pieces will accompany supper. (If you'd like to give us a bit of Burns poetry, or if you can play a tune or sing a song with a more or less Scottish theme, you're very welcome to do a little turn. Many people have enjoyed doing this, and you don't need to be a professional by any means).

The Muckers ceilidh bandx

After supper, at around 9pm, Scottish country dancing will be led by The Muckers, a cracking six-piece ceilidh band who always get the dancefloor leaping. Prue of The Muckers walks the revellers through the steps of each dance, so absolutely no experience is necessary!

There's no compulsion to dance if you'd rather just carry on chatting and drinking instead. A variety of beverages will be available all evening, and you can also try your luck in our Burns Night raffle for a chance to win some great prizes donated by local bike shops and restaurants. All profits from the raffle will be donated to the excellent Re-Cycle charity.

The event will continue until midnight, giving us a full three hours of music and dancing.

Getting there

The school is on Fairholt Road, N16, near the corner with Bethune Road. Come straight in through the main gate.

Location: see your London A-Z, page 46, 1E, or use this map.

Cycle parking signThere are plenty of cycle parking stands within the school grounds.

Buses 253, 259, 279 go along Seven Sisters Road; routes 67, 73, 76, 149 and 243 go to Stamford Hill, and the 106 takes you to the bottom of Bethune Road.

Nearest tube is Manor House (8 mins walk), and there's plenty of time to get the last tube home after the do. The nearest overground train station is Stamford Hill (also a short walk), to which four trains per hour run from Liverpool Street Station, taking 12 minutes. Last train back to L'pool Street is at 23:49, so no problem there either.

If you're coming in a private motor vehicle, there's ample space for storing it on nearby side roads.
